The Rams dropped both of their games this week, facing Iona Prep and Kellenberg each for the second time in the back end of the regular season’s home and away matchups. It was a wet and cold one in the Bronx for Senior Day versus Kellenberg but the weather did not damper the festivities. Congratulations to the all the seniors and parents - Sean Robichaux ‘21 (Stamford), Phil Thompson ‘21 (Yonkers), Matthew Leonard ‘21 (Larchmont), CJ Sowarby ‘21 (Manhattan), Ryan Suarez ‘21 (Briarcliff Manor), Nicholas Athanason ‘21 (Mamaroneck), Sean Miller ‘21 (Rye), William Aventuro ‘21 (White Plains), Blake Kortye ‘21 (Manhattan).

Congratulations to Jack O’Leary ‘23 (Rye) who registered his 25th career point and to Thomas Gies ‘23 (Rye) who collected his 50th groundball of the season, both in the Kellenberg game.

The Rams will face Stepinac later today for their second regular season contest. The Crusaders are 10 - 4 playing a similar CHSAA schedule as the Rams. Stepinac got the better of the Prep in their first meeting 12 - 5 (recap here). Fordham will face Stepinac again on Thursday afternoon in the CHSAA “AA” semi-final playoffs with the winner facing Iona Prep on Saturday for the “AA” City Championship.

The coaching staff will once again be holding its lacrosse summer camp Monday 7/12 to Wednesday 7/14 and is open to rising 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th graders. Spread the word as it’s a great opportunity for future Rams to meet and learn from the staff, check out our facilities, and see all that the Prep has to offer. You can find the details here.

Iona Prep Recap: L 16 - 3

Iona jumped out to a 4 - 0 lead but the Rams settled down defensively executing on their clears and not allowing another goal in the quarter. At the end of the first Thomas Gies ‘23 found a driving Charlie English ‘23 (Port Chester) at midfield who ripped a rocket stick side high on the Iona goalie to cut the lead to 4 - 1. It was all Iona in the second quarter as the Gaels rang up another six goals taking a 10 - 1 margin into halftime.

After two more tallies from Iona the Rams answered when Gies ‘23 dodged his man and two more sliding Iona defenders before picking the corner and bringing it 12 - 2. Two more by Iona made it 14 - 2 after three. In the fourth quarter, a Will Aventura ‘21 ground ball in a scrum led to a Lewis Moore ‘23 (New Rochelle) feed who put it in the net making it 16 - 3, which was the final score.

Stat Line: Gies ‘23 1G, English ‘23 1G, Moore ‘23 1G, Aventuro ‘21 1A/3GB, Sowarby ‘21 4GB, Miller ‘21 10 saves

Kellenberg Recap : L 12 - 4

Kellenberg came hard and strong right out of the gates scoring all the goals in the first quarter for a 5 - 0 lead. The Firebird defense wouldn’t allow the Rams to get their offense going and when Fordham had good looks the Kellenberg goalie denied them. The second quarter saw Kellenberg notch four more, taking advantage of a few man up situations, and extending the lead to nine. The Rams finally got on the board with 16 seconds left in the half when Lewis Moore ‘23 found Thomas Gies ‘23 who whipped a low bouncer off the Firebird keeper’s hip. Sean Miller ‘21’s seven saves in the half kept the Rams within striking distance.

The third quarter belonged to the Rams as they took the possession advantage holding the ball for most of the quarter. The defense did its part shutting out the Firebirds, picking up nine groudballs, and causing several turnovers. At the one minute mark Jack O’Leary ‘23 cut a nice feed from behind the cage to Lewis Moore’ 23 up top who deposited the ball in the top right corner of the goal to cut the lead to 9 - 2. Kellenberg answered with two in a row early in the fourth quarter before Matthew Leonard ‘21 grabbed a loose ball in front of the crease and dumped it in to make it 11 - 3 at the six minute mark. Kellenberg put one more in before Charlie English ‘23 found Jack O’Leary ‘23 who answered to make it the 12 - 4 final.
