The Rams had one game this week, falling to a strong Section 1 opponent in Bronxville. The Prep found themselves in an early hole they couldn’t dig out of as the Broncos led 10 -1 after one quarter. Bronxville was relentless all over the field scooping up 52 groundballs and taking 49 shots. Sean Miller ‘21 (Rye) had his fourth straight game with double digit saves and now has nine games this season with more than 10. Congratulations to Will Aventuro ‘21 (White Plains) who scored his 25tth goal of the season in the contest.

The Rams take on Iona Prep this afternoon in the Bronx looking to avenge the 17 - 7 loss to the Gaels earlier in the season. Iona comes into the contest at 8 - 4 with its losses coming from facing St. Anthony’s and Chaminade each twice. The Gaels have wins over all the Iona/Fordham mutual CHSAA opponents plus a 16 - 8 victory over Bronxville. The Prep then faces Kellenberg on Saturday, hosting the 4 - 6 Firebirds. Kellenberg got the best of the Rams a few weeks ago 14 - 3.

The Top Corner Club was happy to host Greg “The Beast”Gurenlian on Friday for a faceoff clinic with the boys. Greg (bio) is a 7 time MLL/PLL all-star and gold medal winner for the USA National team. We got great feedback from the coaches and players on the session. If you’re interested in supporting the Prep lacrosse program and helping fund events like this you can do so through the Top Corner Club (here).

Bronxville Recap: L 20 - 7

The Prep had a solid first possession getting a good look at the cage but the Broncos goalie denied the Rams. On the other end of the field Bronxville was able to convert on its first possession and then put in another quick two scores to take a 3 - 0 lead with 10 minutes left in the quarter. Some solid defense led to a nice Will Aventuro ‘21 clear and dump to John Chmiel ‘23 (Harrison) on the high crease who found the back of the net to make it 3 - 1. Bronxville then dominated possession for the remainder of the quarter, ringing up seven straight while their defense yielded nothing, which resulted in a 10 - 1 score after one. After a nice ride by the Prep attackmen, which kept the ball on offense, Jack O’Leary ‘23 (Rye) fired a high bouncer sweeping from up top to finally break the Broncos run. The defense and goalies on both sides kept the second quarter scoring low. Bronxville was able to pick up two more and Jack O’Leary ‘23 took his defenseman from behind the cage and netted his second to make it 13 - 3 when the quarter ended.

Thomas Gies ‘23 (Rye) drew first blood in the third quarter cutting the Bronco lead to nine but Bronxville quickly answered to make it 14 - 4. Will Aventuro ‘21 netted his first with a nice roll off his defender and crank from 15 yards out to make it 15 - 5. CJ Sowarby ‘21 (Manhattan) followed that up with a beautiful dip move to get past his defender and make it 15 - 6 at the end of three. After another Bronco goal, Aventuro ‘21 muscled his way through the Bronco defense from up top and netted his second in the low corner with eight minutes remaining. That ended up being the final tally for the Rams as the Broncos scored the final five goals taking home the 20 - 7 win.
