Rams Open Season Against Saint Joseph by the Sea
/We’re excited to kick off another Fordham Prep lacrosse season and are looking forward to once again keeping the Prep lacrosse community abreast of all things FP lax related. We welcome new Varsity Head Coach Rob Coughlin P’15, and new Offensive Coordinator Connor Brown ‘09, who along with current Defensive Coordinator Joe Shanagan and longtime Assistant Coach Jay Rabinowitz, round out the Varsity coaching staff. The program has also added two new faces to lead the JV team - Head Coach Seann Farrell and Assistant Coach Alex Ulrich. All have distinguished lacrosse playing and coaching pedigrees and you can read their bios (here).
We would like to highlight that we will be hosting two Jesuit high school peers for the inaugural New York Jesuit Classic on 3/31 and 4/2. As part of that weekend we will be honoring former Varsity Head Coach Len DeLucia P’09 during several events on that Sunday. You can find details of the day (here). Thank you to the over 100 lacrosse players and family, alumni, and alumni parents who gathered this past Saturday for our annual Season Kickoff and Hall of Fame Dinner. It was another resounding success as Len was inducted into the Prep Lacrosse Hall of Fame. You can read about the evening (here).
Midseason we will be having the annual equipment drive, benefiting Bronx Lacrosse and CityLax, so keep your eyes out for that update. But remember, don’t donate everything…..you’ll need something to play with in future alumni games.
Any parents or alums who would like to help us with the Top Corner Club, please reach out at fptopcornerclub@gmail.com. If you would like to support the program, or learn more about the recently launched Lacrosse Endowment, you can donate (here). We are just below our initial $100,000 Endowment goal. So far this season, through the Endowment, the Top Corner Club has brought in specialist coaches and will be subsidizing part of the team trip to North Carolina.

There are a lot of familiar faces returning to this year’s team, as the 2022 squad was chock full of juniors, sophomores, and freshmen (24 of 31 to be exact), including all of the top five highest scorers representing 79% of the scoring production last year - Jack Freel ‘23 (Manhattan) 34G/27A, Lewis Moore ‘23 (New Rochelle) 28G/1A, Charlie English ‘23 (Port Chester) 13G/13A, PJ Cunningham (Bronx) 15G/9A, Jack O’Leary ‘23 (Rye) 18G/7A. Goalie Trey Lalonde ‘25 (New Fairfield, CT) returns in the cage following a 214 save Freshman season, as well as the nucleus of long poles around him. This year’s roster consists of 28 boys from across Westchester, Manhattan, and Connecticut from a diverse 16 towns with Rye and Manhattan leading the way. Congratulations to this year’s captains: Charlie English ’23, Jack Freel ‘23, Tommy Gies ‘23 (Rye), Lewis Moore ’23, Jack O’Leary ‘23, and Jack Powers ‘23 (Manhattan).
The Rams look to rebound from their 5 - 12 2022 season, where their youth was outmatched against the experience of an eventual CT state champion (Wilton), Section 1 champion and state semi-finalist (Rye), two NJ Powers, as well as the usual top level CHSAA foes. The season ended with a tough loss to Stepinac in the CHSAA semi-finals.
The Prep season opens tomorrow 3/22 at home versus St. Joseph by the Sea, followed by hosting Belen Jesuit (FL) and McQuaid Jesuit in the inaugural NY Jesuit Lacrosse Classic. Games against Saint Dominic, Bronxville, and Trinity take the Rams into their trip down to North Carolina to face the Cannon School (NC), the reigning NC state champs on 4/14. The Prep then comes home to face a tough four game stretch of Stepinac, Hackley, Iona Prep, and Rye. Rounding out April on 4/29 is St. John the Baptist on Senior Day, then out to Long Island for Kellenberg. Greenwich (CT), Long Island Lutheran, and Kennedy Catholic fill out the schedule before the Prep closes out its regular season against reigning CT state champ Wilton (CT). Then it’s off to the playoffs.
Looking ahead to tomorrow, St. Joseph by the Sea is a foe Fordham hasn’t faced since 2014; a 19 - 1 Prep victory. The Prep is 5 - 0 all-time against the Vikings going back to 2008. Like the Rams it will be St. Joseph’s first game of the season. We’re told the team’s games will once again be streamed live so we will keep you posted on that.
Best of luck to our alums playing in college as they continue their lacrosse careers at the next level - James Corasaniti ’18 (Providence), Ethan Tym ’19 (Trinity), Stephen Zupicich ’19 (Ohio State), Will Rice ’20 (Connecticut College), Sean Miller ‘21 (Holy Cross), Phil Thompson ‘21 (Wentworth Inst. of Technology). Corasaniti ‘18 is currently #8 in the country for saves per game, averaging 15 saves per game for the Friars, and has already been named a Big East player of the week for his 19 save effort in the win against Stony Brook. Alums and alumni parents please keep sending in updates so we can highlight them.
Thanks again for all your support to Fordham Prep Lacrosse and good luck to all the players and coaches. We’ll see you on the sidelines!!!
