Rams Face Stepinac Today, End Regular Season This Week Against St. Dominic and Wilton
/One of these weeks the Prep will actually be able to play/finish all the teams on its schedule. This week’s headache was the game versus Hackley getting postponed at halftime due to weather and is in the process of (hopefully) getting rescheduled to finish. The Rams’ other two games were tough losses to strong opponents St. Anthony’s and Greenwich High School. The 19 - 2 loss to St. Anthony’s went about how you would expect playing the #5 team in the country, which is basically a high level college team. Greenwich avenged its loss to Fordham from last year; the game was tied 3 - 3 after the first quarter but the Cardinals went on a 10 goal run the next two quarters to put the game away for a 16 - 5 final.
Today the Prep plays CHSAA foe Stepinac at home, looking to avenge last year’s 10 - 9 loss to the Crusaders when they were the Lohud.com #1 ranked team in the area. Stepinac is 6 - 9 but has played a very challenging schedule this year, including wins against Briarcliff, Wilton (CT), Kellenberg, and Bergen Catholic (NJ) and losses to Bronxville, Staples, Iona Prep, Cheshire (CT), St. Anthony’s, and Scarsdale. This will be a good dry run for the CHSAA playoffs as Fordham and Stepinac will play each other in the first round.
Thursday is the reschedule of the St. Dominic’s game from earlier in the season and will be played at historic Gaelic Park on the campus of Manhattan College, home of the MAAC runner-up Jaspers lacrosse team. The Bayhawks are 9 - 2 against several CHSAA “A” division opponents including a 16 - 4 win over common opponent Cardinal Hayes as well as a 12 - 8 loss to Stepinac. The Prep and St. Dom’s have played very tight as of late, with the Rams winning in double OT last year (recap) and the Bayhawks winning by a goal in 2022.
On Saturday afternoon the Rams will host Wilton High School (CT) again at Gaelic Park. The Warriors are currently 7 - 5 and continue to be one of the top programs in Connecticut and have beaten Staples (CT) and Yorktown this year. As for mutual opponents, Wilton beat Stepinac 7 - 5 and Greenwich (CT) 8 - 6 and lost to Chaminade 14 - 3.
