Rams Top Poly Prep, Full Slate This Week
/The Rams went 1 - 1 on the week starting with a tough 17 - 3 loss to Half Hollow Hills, one of the top teams on Long Island and full of high level college commits. The boys rebounded in dominating fashion to take down Poly Prep in Brooklyn by a score of 16 - 3. Solid fundamentals, winning the groundball battles 42 to 35 and going 18 for 20 on clears, enabled the Prep to control the ball for 60% of the game and outshoot Poly 50 to 23. The Blue devils had a 2 -1 lead after one quarter but the Ram defense caused 10 turnovers and solid goaltending allowed only one more goal as Fordham dropped 15 goals to Poly’s one over the remaining three quarters. Dima Athanason ‘26 (Mamaroneck) and Ryan Bracchitta ‘27 (Scarsdale) led the scoring with 5G and 4G/1A, respectively. Congratulations to Coach Prior on his first win leading the Rams.
Congrats to Brian Flynn ‘28 (Bronxville) and Aidan Jedlicka ‘28 (Crestwood) who notched their first career goals in the Poly Prep game, as well as Graham Leddy ‘27 (White Plains) who registered his first against HHH. Congratulations to Brendan McGrath ‘25 (Bronxville) who was chosen to wear the #41 jersey, in memory of Chris Duffy ‘96, this season. McGrath ‘25 was presented the honor by the coaches and Duffy family at this past Saturday’s Hall of Fame and Season Kickoff Dinner. Congrats also to Kevin Duffy ‘99 who was inducted to the Lacrosse Hall of Fame. You can read about the event and see pictures (here).
This week the Prep has a full slate, with four games that start a stretch that sees the Rams play six games in ten days. Monday, Fordham faces Hackley who comes into the game at 2 - 1. The Rams and the Hornets have split their past two contests with the Prep winning in 2023 16 - 7 and Hackley 13 - 12 in 2022. No rest for the boys as the next day they face rival Iona Prep, who has had the Prep’s number the past few years after winning eight straight, since the Rams’ victory over the Gaels in the 2018 City Championship. For those that remember, that game was an all-time classic in the rivalry (one of many) and you can read about it (here). Iona is 3 - 1 with the lone loss to Don Bosco (NJ). Next up the Prep hosts Long Island Lutheran on Thursday. Fordham has won the past two against LiLu, who is 2 - 1. The Rams close out the week Saturday afternoon at Bronxville as part of the One Love Tournament. One of the toughest teams in Section 1, the Broncos have beaten the Rams four straight years. Bronxville is 0 - 2 with a one goal loss to Mamaroneck and a 19 - 7 loss to Iona Prep.
The JV team continues to roll with wins this past week over Half Hollow Hills, Poly Prep, and Scarsdale. They are now 4 - 1 on the season.
