The 2018 Fordham Prep varsity lacrosse season starts this Tuesday March 27th as the Rams take on Bishop Timon - St. Jude (Buffalo) at home on Murphy Field. Like the Prep, this is also the Tigers first game of the season and the two schools last met to open the Prep season in 2016 (an 11 - 8 FP victory). The Rams follow their opening contest with a game the following day at home versus Rye Country Day. Fordham Prep defeated RCDS last year 10 – 7 before RCDS eventually went on to win the NYSAIS championship. Originally, the Rams were slated to open the season last week in Washington, DC versus Georgetown Prep. The weather postponed game will hopefully be rescheduled.
The Prep’s 2018 schedule consists of the usual CHSAA rivals, including Iona Prep, Chaminade, St. Anthony’s, and Stepinac, as well as several non-league opponents from Westchester (Bronxville, Rye, John Jay, Pelham, Rye Country Day). Additionally, the Rams’ will play out of state programs Bergen Catholic (NJ) and Wilton (CT). The team returns its top two scorers, Ryan Gilchrist ’18 (Crestwood) and Thomas Marra ’18 (Irvington), as well as All-American goalie James Corasaniti ’18 (Manhattan). The Captains for the 2018 season are Corasaniti, Gilchrist, Edward Madden ’18 (Crestwood), and Marra.
The Ram’s finished up the 2017 season with a record of 12-10 outscoring opponents 196 to 172 and posting an 8.9% goals for and 7.8% goals against average. Ryan Gilchrist ’18 (42G, 17A) and Thomas Marra ’18 (30G, 27A) led the team in scoring. For their careers thus far, Gilchrist and Marra have tallied 93 and 127 points, respectively. Stephen Zupicich led the team in ground balls with 54.
The Fordham Prep Lacrosse Dinner and Hall of Fame Induction ceremony held at Rory Dolans’ on March 2, 2018 was a resounding success!
